Alpha Phi holds sixth annual poker tournament Feb. 18

Lady Gaga sang about it, and people around UNK have been working on it—perfecting their poker face.

Alpha Phi women’s fraternity on campus is hosting their sixth annual Red Dress Poker Tournament, a Texas Hold 'em style event Friday, Feb. 18 in the Health and Sports Center.

“All proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation with the main focus on women’s cardiac care,” said Kirsten Rasmussen, a senior nursing major from Kearney.

Rasmussen, co-marketing chair for the tournament, said, “We have had great success with the tournament in the years I have been here, and we are looking to have the biggest turnout this year.”

There will be prizes for the top contenders, including separate prizes for men and women. “Poker is not just a man’s sport. Women are definitely encouraged to take part in the tournament,” Rasmussen said.  Last year, Alpha Phi raised over $7,000 dollars for the Alpha Phi Foundation and women’s cardiac care. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door, where registration will begin at 5 p.m.
