UNK Sophomore Phillip Martin was at the event and said he loved the concession stand food.

Students gathered at the Viaero Event Center Friday night for Blue and Gold Rock n’ Skate to enjoy free activities and celebrate their first week back to school.

Various departments at UNK set up booths with games, numerous contests and fun activities running the whole night.

“I enjoyed the concession stand food and the Nintendo Wii,” said Phillip Martin a sophomore from Kearney, and equipment manager for the UNK football team.

They had free ice skating from 8-11 p.m., and the Storm hockey team was there, so UNK students could meet them.

“I didn’t participate in the ice skating, but it was very entertaining to watch the other kids try to ice skate that were just learning,” Martin said.

The UNK band and the band Soca Jukebox rocked the house with live entertainment.

There was always laughter coming from the criminal justice booth.

“I thought it was fun to watch students at the criminal justice booth, because they had the drunk goggles there, and people had to try and walk in a straight line and weave in out of cones,” Martin said.

Students also enjoyed competing in a tricycle race, hanging out with Louie the Loper, getting tattoos from the UNK cheerleaders and winning raffle prizes throughout the night.

It was a very fun night for new students on campus to meet other students in a fun atmosphere away from campus.

“I mostly enjoyed just hanging out with other college students,” Martin said. “It was a really good way to meet new students at UNK.”
